My old Dell E7450's battery was about to throw in the towel and I figured I would get myself something nice so I decided to spring for the P16s and picked the AMD model as many noted the battery life improvements that would come with the computer. However, the problems immediately started once I opened the box.

1. I specifically picked the configuration with the 86whr battery listed and I ended up with the 56whr battery and nobody from support wants to honor what the listing previously said. Then soon, Lenovo removed all listings with 86whr and replaced it with 56whr for a while, making it impossible to get a 86whr configuration for a while until the custom build option became available.

2.Immediately upon unboxing, I press the power button and the power light lights up and nothing comes on the screen for a solid 5 minutes. Hard reboot fixed it so figured it was a fluke. It wasn’t a fluke. This issue happened when I woke the computer from sleep or shutdown and it would just freeze for minutes, requiring a hard reboot to fix. After sending my machine in for service, it still has this issue but happens left often. But that wasn’t the last of my issues.

3.The Wi-Fi adapter in this laptop is terrible. On basically any other laptop or phone I have, I was able to pull in 200+mbps but with this network adapter, I was only able to get 35mbps max. Tried everything from driver reinstalls to configuring driver settings but nothing worked. Either the adapter or the drivers are just garbage. Might be because the network I am using uses WPA-2 Enterprise and has a default link speed of 400/400 but it shouldn’t matter as all my other devices work just fine and have the speeds I expect.

Minor bug. The Wi-Fi adapter shows up 4 times in the network settings for some odd reason and I tried everything I could to fix it but nothing worked. If you are interested in seeing it I have it in the Lenovo forum.

4.Bluetooth randomly disappears for no reason. And I mean like gone completely from device manager. Rebooting doesn’t fix the issue. Only shutting down then powering back on it comes back.

5.To add on, the bluetooth performance on it is terrible. When using bluetooth headphones, the audio cuts out frequently and stutters and is outperformed by a 5 dollar adapter off Amazon that lags less. Truly disappointing for a 1500+ notebook.

6. Random moments where I go to start up the computer and find out that it’s forgotten the bit locker key for no reason, forcing me to enter it in manually. Very strange behavior.

8.Random issues where the computer won’t even enter sleep. I press the sleep key and find that it doesn’t sleep and the light just pulsates. Very strange and frustrating. It will eventually go to sleep if I do it enough times but again very annoying.

9.My laptop get's stuck in sleep when I leave it connected to an external monitor overnight. I think this issue got fixed recently but again still very annoying and still happens occasionally.

10.The issue also seems to happen even when connected to nothing. I go to wake it occasionally and it will do nothing and the power LED just pulsates, forcing a hard reboot. And then I wake up to see my battery drained. Might be a windows thing but still worth noting.

11. Option to turn off screen with power button vanished from the control panel for some reason after I sent it in for repair. Again, very annoying.

Overall, I kind of regret purchasing this computer. While it's not all bad. It's got a nice keyboard and ok-ish battery life, and an excellent screen, the issues to me outweighs the upsides. While I will continue to use this computer, I might not be considering a Thinkpad in the future for my next computer until they iron out issues like these which are critical to even just being able to use the computer.

Also, the USB C port being soldered is just stupid and my brother has a T14 that already has a failed USB C so it's a matter of time before my computer will have that issue.

Bad Wi-Fi and Sleep/Wake issues are disappointing

This has been a wonderful unit for work. I work from Home and it certainly does the job. Plenty of power, quick startup, and great graphics. I love the 16" Screen as I do a lot of online training. It has a rapid charger and long-life battery. I can pretty much work all day without recharge.

Definitely recommend this laptop for business use.

Great laptop. Only down side is short battery life; however, that is part of what keeps it light.

Small battery but light

I was excited when I first saw the availability of this model. It was advertised with 86WH or 52WH battery based on configuration. I chose the one with the highest configuration in terms of screen, memory (32GB), storage (1TB), and believed I would be getting the 86WH variant. At that time it was too new to have any review, but I trust Lenovo especially with the ThinkPad brand to be with top notch quality, so even though it says ships in 2 months I still happily ordered.

Upon receiving it, the build quality is totally great. I like the screen especially, and it seems to be of similar quality to my Legion 5 Pro with Ryzen 5800 w/ RTX3070, which is excellent but too heavy for road, and hence the purchase of this P16s. However I soon discovered the battery life is too short. I intentionally picked this model over anything with a dedicated video card so I can bring it on the road. Unfortunately the power died on my trip from DC to NY on the train, for a merely 3 hrs travel.

Then I realized this one came with the very small 52WH battery. After many reviewers posted the same concern, I saw Lenovo's website now removed all 86WH battery references and just 52WH across the board. I think this is a very strange decision on Lenovo's side. At one hand you have a very nice laptop that checks every single box, with a light weight to fit a road worrier's need. At the other hand it's equipped with a super small battery that did not survive a 3 hours trip. I have to be honest that I would not have bought this if I have known it will only be shipped with 52WH battery. I considered returning it but I do like the unit. At the end of day, I use it for regular things, and on business trip I had to carry extra battery which negate the saving of the weight. Or I had to bring the 3 years old Dell XPS which always gave me over 6 hours.

I think Lenovo should do the right thing to swap the battery for those purchaser who ordered the top trim during the time it was advertised with 86WH battery. For the purchases made after the spec was changed to 52WH only then they knew what they will be getting. Not us when we thought we will be getting the 86WH ones. It's similar to buy a car which advertises with either 5LV8 or 2LI4 engines. When the buyer happily to go with the top trim, only to find that ALL CARS ARE EQUIPPED WITH THE 2L 4 CYLINDER ENGINE. Yes, that's exactly how it feels.

Otherwise, this is such a great laptop. I didn't try the gaming performance because I have already the Lenovo Legion 5 Pro for that. This is strictly for business and when plugged in, the performance is truly top notch.

Nice laptop but short-lived battery

Good laptop quality and performance . Downside is the battery at 56 Wh will only last 2.5 hrs. Then you have to charge or plug in always . This is a workstation device , Lenovo made it like on a work station machine and not for mobility . Battery will always be the king for a laptop mobility . It’s not rocket science for them to make it happen .

Good machine Battery sucks !

Performance is good for an ultrabook class device and battery life is very long. The ThinkShutter is a nice detail. Keyboard quality is very good for such a thin and light device. Lenovo included basically no bloatware of any kind (Lenovo Vantage is useful), though of course the same cannot be said of Microsoft but this is not Lenovo's fault.

Downsides include a mediocre display (would be nice if displays of the same quality as available on the X1 devices were an option here), chassis flex, and the fact that WiFi was very intermittent out of the box. That problem went away after doing a clean installation of Windows 11 Enterprise with the installation image trimmed of all MSFT nonsense using NTLite, which is a requirement for a good Windows experience to begin with.

Good but not great device

The ThinkPad P16s is the finest laptop I've ever owned. It's much faster than my old Lenovo Laptop and has much longer battery life which is great while out calling on Clients.

ThinkPad P16s Laptop meets my need and more

After using P16s for one months, my thought is the overall performance is not outstanidng but acceptable. but battery longivity is much worse than my expectation. power code is always necessary.

P16s is a good laptop with poor battery

Got it a month ago for writing my PhD thesis and run light datasets analysis in R or SAS. I usually work 12 to 16 hours a day on the computer because of that so I was looking for something powerful and reliable! I am not sure how it will deal with heavy datasets, but I hope it handles it because I bought it for that as well! It is fast and with great memory. I hope it lasts for several years!!! Up to now I am very happy with my purchase. The OLED screen is AWESOME!!!!! Lenovo please keep up with the good work and I will keep as a loyal costumer. Just got my LENOVO tablet last month as well.

Fast and awesome for my PhD!

Fast, efficient, delivered sooner than stated. I love this laptop! The screen is wonderful, great optics. Very happy I bought it.

Great Product!

Came faster than expected. Build quality is nice. Screen resolution is amazing. Screen is bright enough to use in the sun in my work truck. Weight is reasonable. Wish the sim slot had a reader to use wirelessly.

Great all in all

I was wary of the size of the laptop but it is not a hefty or large as I expected.

This being my 8th or 9th ThinkPad (going back to 701c Butterfly era), quality does to disappoint. Keyboard feel and type is great as usual. The 4k screen resolution is bright and very usable for my daily use.

As I am not a "gamer" I cannot vouch for graphic extensive games but Microsoft and Adobe graphic apps run very well.

Battery performance not good they come with a 52 wh which only last for 2 hours tops, the rest of the specs and shell components are great. Your choice but at the end of the day it speaks more on the battery for a laptop .

Great Laptop!

Great laptop deal. The 16 inch OLED screen is amazing. I was surprised how light the laptop was for its size. I was hesitant about switching back to a Windows laptop after my 2015 Macbook Pro died, but I'm pleasantly surprised.

Love my new ThinkPad P16s Gen 2

I'm a web developer and I find this laptop confortable to work with. I'm upgrading from a Lenovo Flex 5 (2017, i5 8th gen) and this laptop is significantly faster (compiling is much, much faster), although the boot time is slower than I expected. This laptop also feels sturdier and the hinges have no wobble. Hinges were terrible in my previous laptop.
About the keyboard: I don't use the numpad and I would have preferred a larger keyboard, but still the size is fine. Home and End keys usually require me to look at the keyboard, which didn't happen on my previous laptop as these functions were accessed through Fn+Arrow keys.
The 1980x1200 screen is gorgeous. Colors look great and it gets pretty bright.
The BIOS menu is incredible. It has many options and is very easy to use.
On Windows everything works as expected, as this laptop is designed for that OS.
Gaming is absolutely possible. I tried Crysis Warhead and I got framerates between 40 and 60 fps. Left 4 Dead worked like a charm.
Battery life is fine, but don't expect it to be like macOS. It charges pretty fast too.
Speakers are... not great. But they get the job done.
The webcam is far better than my previous one.
The Wi-Fi chip is awesome and works well with most Linux distributions (it didn't work in the latest version of Manjaro though).
To Linux users, I recommend Fedora. It works great, even suspending the laptop seems to work fine.
On Kubuntu and KDE Neon the internal microphone didn't work, but it did work fine in Fedora.
Obviously hardware support tends to improve overtime in Linux.
I barely heard the fan while on Linux, but on Windows I heard it more often. The sound is slightly high-pitched but it doesn't bother too much.

I like it. To Linux users: Fedora36 works great.

Pretty good laptop.

The only thing that i did not like is the monitor resolution. Little bit of blur.

I did not verified before buying that it does have 4k resolution/.
